Behind the Scenes of this Photo

Taken at Lago di Sorapis in the Italian Dolomites on July 19th, 2016

In August while photographing on a workshop with my friend Erin Babnik we visited the surreally-blue Lago di Sorapis in the Italian Dolomites. On the morning of our visit I woke up early and hiked from the Rifugio to the lake, and on up the hillside behind the lake. As the sun came up it bathed the scene in luxuriant warm rays while the blue lake reflecting the blue sky provided a striking color contrast.

This is a wonderful photo.
I was wondering what time you got to the lake to take this photo?
Im very keen to try to get away from the crowds and take some serene shots of the lake at sunrise

  Thanks so much. For this shot we hiked into the Refugio and stayed the night there. Then early the next morning I hiked up to the far side of the lake. I think I arrived about 20 minutes before sunrise in order to find a good composition before the light hit.
