Hole in the Wall Beach, Santa Cruz, 10-10-2012

Fall is finally bringing some interesting clouds back to the Santa Cruz coast and I am dusting off my seascape chops. On October 10th I went out to photograph Hole in the Wall Beach, in my opinion the most beautiful beach in the Santa Cruz area. The sunset was lovely: lots of color and texture. And I came away with four keepers from the night: two in color and two in black and white. Let me know what you think in the comments below. Cheers!

Your work never fails to bring back many fond memories of camping there during the late 60’s-early 70’s. Can’t begin to tell you how many sunsets I have embedded in my mind from my days free climbing those cliffs in that region. Thanks again for sharing your talent to capture the many moods of this section of coast so well.

Did you happen to know that there once was cliff all the way out to what is now the seastack on this south side of HITW? It made for a magnificent view both from above as was well as through the ‘hole in the wall’ that was once an access point to these rugged layered shelves you depict so nicely. You’ve done well to find such a place of solace and reflection as I once did so many years ago.
