What are Picture Controls / Styles like neutral, vivid, flat?

All Topics

For this I’m talking about the picture control or picture style on your camera. Every manufacturer calls it something different but they usually have a wide range of options including vivid, landscape, portrait, standard, and neutral. These are basically your camera’s way of adding some amount of contrast, sharpening, and saturation to your raw file before showing you a JPEG preview on the back of your camera. I recommend using the Flat or Neutral picture control/style so that you have a better idea of what your raw data is actually like.
