Chapter 2, Part 2 – Editing Masks Non-Destructively

Just a small note – at 7:45 when you create the group, do not use the Create Group button at the bottom of the Layers panel as it will create a new group but not include the layer and the Group Mask will not work. You need to create a group layer which includes the curves layer and its mask. You can use Shift+Create Group button and that will work and you can also use the Layer options menu in the Panel to select New Group from Layers or use Command+G (Mac) and these will also work as is stated in the video. Add the Group Layer mask and then brush in the areas you want as shown in the rest of the video. I spent about 1.5 hours trying to figure out why it wasn’t working for me (Photoshop 2021) so I hope this helps someone else if they find themselves in the same position!

Glad you got this figured out, and thanks for leaving a note for others who may be running into the same snag!
