Announcement: The Nature Photography Academy

Greetings my excellent friends, you may have noticed that I haven’t been putting up tons of videos lately. One of the reasons is that I’ve been traveling like crazy this year, which has been really fun, but it hasn’t left me a whole lotta time for making videos.

The other reason is that I’ve been working hard on a new project I would love for you to be a part of called the Nature Photography Academy, which you can check it out here…. Nature Photography Academy!

But before I get into exactly what the Academy is I wanted to say thanks for the insane amount of support you’ve given me over the past two years. When I started this channel and blog I simply wanted to share some easy to understand photo tips. I had no idea that two years later, over 150,000 people would be subscribed to the channel and that my videos would have been viewed over 5 million times. I am totally flabbergasted, so thank you!

But making these videos for YT also has two huge challenges, and that’s why I created the academy. The first challenge is that YouTube videos have to be short, if they’re over 5 minutes long, forget it! Nobody’s going to watch. Which is fine for discussing simple things, but photography has complexities and subtleties! So if I want to discuss something in depth, or talk about an advanced topic, I either have to break it up into 6 short videos, or more likely, just skip the topic, and that sucks.

I wanted a place where I could dive deep into photography to create in-depth, comprehensive, engrossing tutorials on topics like everything you could possibly want to know about seascape photography, to raw photo processing in Lightroom, to composition masterclasses with professional photographers.

And that’s what’s happening at the Academy. Fully detailed, in-depth, but still easy to understand and fun video courses about what it really takes to create stunning nature photos.

The other challenge with these YouTube videos is that they’re a ton of work! It might not seem like it but on average it takes me between 10 and 15 hours to write and re-write a script, gather and format all the sample images used to illustrate a topic, film the video, send it off to be edited, and then upload it to YouTube, add links and descriptions, create blog posts and newsletter blasts, and so on. All for a 5 minute video.

It’s a huge commitment of time and money. And though I do earn a small amount from YT ad revenue that doesn’t begin to cover the costs of production. So while it is a ton of fun to make the videos it’s gotten to the point where I can’t keep doing it without your help.

When you enroll in the Nature Photography Academy not only will you get access to the best, in-depth photography courses on the web, but you’ll also be helping me create a lot more free tips and premium video courses, bring on guest photographers, and make the pro photo tips community even better.

The Academy is only 10 bucks a month, about what it costs to get a couple of coffees. There’s also a 7-day free trial period where you can check it out and see if you like it. If you think it’s awesome, fantastic! Stick around. If it’s not for you, no worries. But I think you’re gonna dig it, and I can’t wait for you to see all the great in depth stuff already there and what’s coming up.

If you’re interested you can check out the Academy by clicking right here. If not, don’t sweat it, there are still lots more free videos coming your way here on Pro Photo Tips. Until next time, have fun and happy shooting.
