New Photos, New Products, and New Events at Joshua Cripps Photography

Howdy!

It’s been awhile since my last big update, and that’s because I’ve been saving up for this one, and boy is it a doozy! In this post you’re going to have a chance to check out some new photos and some exciting new products. There’s also a list of the art shows I’m going to be attending for the next few months so that you can come by and say hello.

New Photos

I finally had a chance to sort through the rest of photos from my exciting South Africa trip, so let’s get started by showcasing a few of the new photos that have recently been added to the website. Elephant lovers will be happy, as I’ve added a number of shots showcasing the great pachyderms, including:

End of a Dusty Trail

African Bull Evening

And anyone who has a fondness for the desert will surely appreciate the dramatic clouds I was able to capture over the Karoo Desert:

Karoo Creation

These images represent only a small fraction of the new photos that have been added in the past few weeks, so head to the site and start exploring!

New Products

As much as I love showing you all new photos, the most exciting part of this post for me is showing off all the new products that have been added to the inventory at Joshua Cripps Photography. That’s right, we are no longer just a print store! No indeed! Now in addition to our traditional fine art prints we have all kinds of neat things on offer, such as:

Canvas Prints –
Starting at only $79.95

A trendy and impressive alternative to fine art prints, our gallery-wrap canvas prints offer a beautiful presentation without the need of framing. Canvas Prints start at only $79.95

Fotoflōt Prints – Starting at only $99.95

Fotoflōts offer the ultimate in contemporary and chic photo presentation by “floating” a beautiful, high-quality, acrylic-backed photo off of your wall. This type of print starts at only $99.95

Triple-Series Photos –
$49.95 each

If you’re having trouble deciding on your favorite Joshua Cripps photo, take a look at our Triple-Series, where three unique and beautiful photos are framed together in a constant theme. Themes range from The Beauty of California to A New Zealand Odyssey to Zebra Stripes and beyond. All triple-series are signed, matted, and framed and are only $49.95 each.

Greeting Cards – Set of 10 for only $24.95

Send your favorite Joshua Cripps photos to your friends in the form of our gorgeous greeting cards. Currently available in two sets: of 10 different cards: The Beauty of California, and African Animal Babies. Many more sets to come soon! Each set of 10 cards is only $24.95.

That’s all I’m going to show you for now. But as if that weren’t enough already, be expecting another post within a few weeks detailing even more cool products available to you. To give you a head’s up, I’m talking about new print styles, small and LARGE. First, the 5×7 accent prints that have already proven so popular at Art Shows will be making their way onto the website at a measly $9.95 each. On the other end of the scale, I have big plans to go HUGE: Mural-sized photos available in whopping sizes as large as 30″x80″, and available in a number of finishes and mounts. It’s pretty exciting, so keep your eyes peeled!

In the meantime, head to the store to check out the current selection of goodies.

The Best Job in the World?

If you folks haven’t heard about this, Tourism Queensland is running a contest whereby the winner gets “The Best Job in the World.” More specifically, the position is caretaker of Hamilton Island, which is part of the Whitsunday Islands in the Great Barrier Reef. The position requires you to snorkel, scuba, spa, trek, and explore the island and the Reef and report back to Queensland (and the world) via weekly video, a photo diary, and a blog. It is a paid position, demanding a salary of $150000AUD (about $100K USD) for a six-month stint on the island.

The contest requires prospective applicants to submit a 1-minute video of themselves explaining why he/she is the best person for the job. A demanding task, not only to describe yourself in 1 minute, but also to do it in a creative and entertaining way that separates you from the thousands of other applicants.

Anywho, a job like this is right up my alley, so I thought I’d apply. Here’s my vid:

First Place!

Recently I was very excited to win First Place in the 22nd Annual InFocus Photography Competition and Exhibition put on by the Central Sierra Arts Council with the photo, Thank God It’s Friday:

Thank God Its Friday
Thank God It’s Friday (so named because I shot it on a glorious Friday evening after a long week of work)

Here’s the poster from the show:

InFocus Exhibition Poster
InFocus Exhibition Poster (Gee, you think they over-saturated it a tad?)

I was all the more stoked to win because of they way they told me.  Originally I had submitted three photos (TGIF, Ritter and Banner, Uncertain Chameleon) to the contest.  After their jury period, the judges called me and asked me to come pick up the one photo which wasn’t selected.  End of conversation.

So here I am thinking that not only did I not place in the contest, but I even had a photo rejected.  A little disappointing . . .

. . . till a few days later when I get another call from the Organizer saying, “We just wanted to let you know that one of your photos one first place.  The one titled “Thank God It’s Friday.”

Wow.  You guys couldn’t have told me that when you first called, to save me these last few days of disappointment?  Geez . . .

Nevertheless, that call made my day.  And there was a nice added bonus of some prize money, which promptly went to pay my propane bill.   :)
