To celebrate the New Year, I’m holding a print sale at my online store. 15% off all mounted, canvas, and fine art prints. Prices at the store already contain the discount. Sale ends January 15th.
I will be exhibiting my nature photography at the wonderful 35th Annual Sonora Christmas Festival over the upcoming Thanksgiving Weekend. The Festival runs for three days, Friday the 27th through Sunday the 29th, and is a really fun show filled with lots of amazing arts and crafts, quality entertainment, and delicious food. They even have a play area for the kids. And on Friday evening after the show you can enjoy the Sonora Christmas Parade which runs down main street in town.
The Festival is a great place to find some beautiful and unique gifts for your friends, loved ones, or for yourself. There are over 150 artists who hand-make a variety of wonderful arts and crafts, from pottery and jewelry to paintings, and of course, photography. In my booth you’ll be able to find greeting cards, archival fine art prints, stylish canvas wraps, beautiful framed photos, and more. I’ll even have some new photos on display, so there’s all the more reason to stop by and say hi.
The show is at the Motherlode Fairgrounds in downtown Sonora. I’m including a flier here that will get you one dollar off admission to the Festival. Just print the flier out and bring it with you to the show to get the discount.
Take care and hope to see you at the show!

Howdy y’all. Just got back from Tern Island and boy, what an experience! I have heaps of stories and thoughts and of course, photos, to share with everyone so stayed tuned during the next few weeks as I get them up on the website.
Woot! In a sudden turn of events (no pun intended), the powers that be have seen fit to allow me to visit / volunteer at / shoot Tern Island for a whole month, starting NOW! Tern is in the French Frigate shoals, a series of small coral atolls about half way between Honolulu and Midway. I’ll be there from March 5th (but I need to be in Honolulu March 3rd for orientation) until March 30th, returning to California on April 6th.
I’m closing down the store until then, but never fear, because I’ll be back and better than ever in April!
Howdy!
It’s been awhile since my last big update, and that’s because I’ve been saving up for this one, and boy is it a doozy! In this post you’re going to have a chance to check out some new photos and some exciting new products. There’s also a list of the art shows I’m going to be attending for the next few months so that you can come by and say hello.

I finally had a chance to sort through the rest of photos from my exciting South Africa trip, so let’s get started by showcasing a few of the new photos that have recently been added to the website. Elephant lovers will be happy, as I’ve added a number of shots showcasing the great pachyderms, including:
End of a Dusty Trail
African Bull Evening
And anyone who has a fondness for the desert will surely appreciate the dramatic clouds I was able to capture over the Karoo Desert:
Karoo Creation
These images represent only a small fraction of the new photos that have been added in the past few weeks, so head to the site and start exploring!
As much as I love showing you all new photos, the most exciting part of this post for me is showing off all the new products that have been added to the inventory at Joshua Cripps Photography. That’s right, we are no longer just a print store! No indeed! Now in addition to our traditional fine art prints we have all kinds of neat things on offer, such as:

If you folks haven’t heard about this, Tourism Queensland is running a contest whereby the winner gets “The Best Job in the World.” More specifically, the position is caretaker of Hamilton Island, which is part of the Whitsunday Islands in the Great Barrier Reef. The position requires you to snorkel, scuba, spa, trek, and explore the island and the Reef and report back to Queensland (and the world) via weekly video, a photo diary, and a blog. It is a paid position, demanding a salary of $150000AUD (about $100K USD) for a six-month stint on the island.
The contest requires prospective applicants to submit a 1-minute video of themselves explaining why he/she is the best person for the job. A demanding task, not only to describe yourself in 1 minute, but also to do it in a creative and entertaining way that separates you from the thousands of other applicants.
Anywho, a job like this is right up my alley, so I thought I’d apply. Here’s my vid:
Come down and see me at the Whale of an Art Show in beautiful Monterey, CA this weekend. The show runs Saturday and Sunday, Feb 14th and 15th, from 10 am – 5 pm. It’s happening at the Custom House Plaza park, right across from Fisherman’s Wharf. See you there!
Recently I was very excited to win First Place in the 22nd Annual InFocus Photography Competition and Exhibition put on by the Central Sierra Arts Council with the photo, Thank God It’s Friday:

Here’s the poster from the show:

I was all the more stoked to win because of they way they told me. Originally I had submitted three photos (TGIF, Ritter and Banner, Uncertain Chameleon) to the contest. After their jury period, the judges called me and asked me to come pick up the one photo which wasn’t selected. End of conversation.
So here I am thinking that not only did I not place in the contest, but I even had a photo rejected. A little disappointing . . .
. . . till a few days later when I get another call from the Organizer saying, “We just wanted to let you know that one of your photos one first place. The one titled “Thank God It’s Friday.”
Wow. You guys couldn’t have told me that when you first called, to save me these last few days of disappointment? Geez . . .
Nevertheless, that call made my day. And there was a nice added bonus of some prize money, which promptly went to pay my propane bill.
